I tend to like scrapbook layouts with white backgrounds but then I also like to use pretty patterned papers as well, so I am often torn between using a neutral cardstock background or going for it and using a patterned paper. I LOVE what Stephanie did here because she incorporated both of those... using a white cardstock and covering half the background with a patterned paper! I also LOVE how she used the patterned piece on a diagonal. It adds great visual interest to the page!
One of my favorite ways to highlight pretty patterned paper is to use it in a graphic way. Many of the patterned papers in collections already have some sort of graphic design to them and playing off that design can be very eye catching.
For my layout today, I decided to use this beautiful mint green diagonal striped paper from the Styleboard collection. Instead of using it as my entire background, I folded my paper in half diagonally (following the lines already on the paper), and then trimmed down my folded line. I then added the patterned paper to my white background to create a graphic design look to my page.
I kept my photos and paper layers in the center of the page to draw your eye to where the paper and white cardstock meet. I also chose to add in a brighter colored alpha with my title to add a little pop and contrast to my layout.
A few simple embellishments alongside my photos and in the top right hand corner were the finishing touches to this page! I really love how this page turned out and I especially love the graphic feel to it!!
