Hi there! I have a gorgeous layout to share with you today along with a tutorial for using gelatos! I have been super inspired by Kim and her use of gelatos lately! I have almost bought them so many times but wasn't sure if I wanted another "tool" to use in my scrapbooking. But now that I am seeing the beautiful ways she incorporates them into her pages, I am definitely convinced that I "need" them right away!! She makes it look so effortless! I am hoping that with a little bit of practice I can make something as lovely as this!!
I wanted to share I project I made using gelatos today. Gelatos are just plain fun! That's the best way to describe them and once you start using them they will become a staple on a lot of your projects! Sometimes I have to tell myself not to use them because I've been using them so much.
This was a simple project where I used a few different colors. It helps if you pick your papers or embellishments first if you want to work in this ombre fashion. I picked four colors and white and then pulled out the different ephemera, chipboard pieces and badges in the same colors and laid them out the way I wanted them to look across the page.
Before I colored with the gelatos I used some gel medium and a few different stencils along the middle. Using a spatula I spread a thin layer of the gel medium over parts of the stencils. I used a polka dot stencil, an alpha stencil and a striped stencil but you can you any type that you have! You're left with a little subtle added texture that will show up once you continue on and color with the gelatos!
Then I took my page and colored down the middle using about an inch or two of each color (with the gelatos). After you've colored on the paper then get a wet paintbrush and paint down each strip until you've dissolved and blended the color. It takes a little practice to get the blending just right. I like to paint sort of wildly to get a few splatters in certain areas.
Once this was dry then I adhered my pieces across the painted area, layering in some areas and letting the paint peep through in others.
I always enjoy just a little painterly look to my projects. This gives you that look without being over the top. There are so many possibilities with gelatos! I know that you'll love them!
