Seriously a month? I can't stand that I haven't blogged in such a long time! But instead of beating myself up over it I am trying to remember that this seems to happen each year around this time. Not only am I busy doing my normal things - being a mom, wife, studio calico, my online photography classes, etc - but it is the craziest time of year for my photography business. Every year I try to gear up for it and think I am going to stay on top of it all but it seems like something has to give and it ends up being the blog. :)
I do keep up with posting on instagram, twitter and facebook so if you don't follow me and want to keep up with the little day-to-day things that are going on around here you can find me and follow me by clicking on the links or by looking me up on instagram under maggiehdesign.
I have lots of exciting things to share with you today!!
1. Elizabeth is almost 6 months old! Hello! Where does the time go? She is an absolute joy and is the happiest baby on earth! She is rolling around now and her first little tooth just poked through as well!
2. I was featured as the guest designer for Crate Paper this week! You can see the post along with my layouts here on their blog! I'm not sure why my layouts look all pixelated over there though :( They don't look that crazy in real life!
3. Did you see the 2012 Creating Keepsakes Dream Team announcement yet? I will be back for another year and couldn't be more excited about it!
4. I will be launching some new online workshops at Maggie Holmes Design very soon and can't wait to share the details with you!! I will still be offering my current photography classes which start back up again in January 2012 so no worries, those are not going away! In fact, the first one is almost full so if you are thinking of signing up, do it quick! It might be time to snag yourself an early Christmas present!! :)
And just to tease you I will give you a little hint about one of the new classes - It has to do with documenting December......... any ideas?? Stay tuned! I will be back to announce it soon and link you up to the registration page!

Creative Spaces is now on sale!!! I've been excited about this special issue of Creating Keepsakes for a while now and was so excited to finally see it in print! Megan Hoeppner did an amazing job with this and it is truly inspiring to see so many different creative spaces/rooms all in one place!
Don't you just love getting a chance to peek into other people's homes to see how they organize things and how they live? Many of us creative people actually do a lot of "living" right here in our scrapbooking or art spaces because we spend so much time working on projects and doing what we love! I can't stop looking through this issue because there are more little details and things I find each time!! So fun!
If you purchase Creative Spaces online you can use the code SPACESBB for free shipping in the US (offer good through 5/27/11).
You can also take a sneak peek inside the issue right here:
My space is featured in the issue and it is actually now a little different but many of the same storage solutions are the same. For me, my room is always changing and evolving because I really love the actual process of organizing! So every time I do a purge and a little deep cleaning in here, I tend to change things up a bit and try out different ways of organizing/storing things. It's all part of the creative fun right? :)
Here are a few more recent pictures of my current space. I've added lots of cake plates and tiered storage pieces to my room because they are perfect for storing all of my mists and paints, etc.
My favorite part about sharing this issue with you is that I have an extra copy to give away to one of my readers!! Leave a comment here on this post and tell me a favorite storage/organizing solution of yours. You can share anything you want and it doesn't even have to be scrapbook related. I know that I am always looking for great organizing ideas for my whole house!! Can't wait to read your ideas!! I will be back to draw a winner in a few days. Good luck!

I know I mentioned this before but being one of the 9 nominees for this award is really an honor! I have been scrapbooking for as long as I can remember and even though it is a huge part of my life, I really don't talk about it a lot (besides here on my blog). Hardly any of the people that I hang out with on a day-to-day basis scrapbook and honestly I don't even think that most of my family members really "get" what its all about and why I am so into it! In fact just last month my husband picked up one of the recent Creating Keepsakes issues and he was getting all excited that I had some layouts in there. He couldn't believe I hadn't told him and I just laughed and explained that since I have been on the Dream Team the last few years, I have actually had layouts in every issue. And I thought he knew that but he had no idea! So you really can see that I just go about my business and do my thing but I don't really make a big deal of it.
So, getting back to my point, I guess I am still really taken back when people will take the time to stop and notice all of this and when people tell me that they are inspired by what I do in the scrapbooking world. I can remember when I first got started in the industry with Making Memories, and now all these years later, I still just feel like little old me doing my thing the same as I always have been. I still look at ladies like the other award nominees and I am in awe at them and what they do and how they inspire me! I still pinch myself when I am at the Creative Escape preview day teaching a practice run of my class to other amazing and inspiring scrapbookers like Heidi Swapp, Teresa Collins, Claudine Hellmuth, and the others.
Receiving this award is a big deal to me not only because it is an honor but because it really is nice to see that what I do is making a difference and that it is inspiring to others.... we all want to feel like the things we do matter and especially things we pour our heart and soul into on a daily basis. It truly means a lot and I do want to say thanks to Ella Publishing and thanks to all of my online friends and the followers of my blog that have been hanging out here for years paying attention and joining me on this amazing journey! It feels great to be able to share this (and everything else I do) with all of you and with so many people that do "get" it and that do feel the same passion for taking photographs, creating art and preserving our memories!
Ok, I didn't mean to get all gushy... now onto the giveaways! The fun part! I am so excited to be a part of this blog tour because there are lots of amazing prizes up for grabs! When I read all of the details about the tour and the giveaways I was literally blown away! It's not very often that you get 100 chances to win.... and such great prizes too!
I will be giving away one prize from each of the nominees, plus Ella - that's 10 prizes in all that you can win here on my blog. You can enter to win by leaving a comment on this post. The winners will be selected randomly and each winner will receive one of the listed prizes. If you are dying for a certain prize over something else you can include that with your comment as well but there are no guarantees. You will have until Friday at 10am MST to enter.
Here's a list of the prizes:
• A $20 gift certificate from Ella Publishing Co.
• Two digital-scrapbooking template packs (20 templates) from Cathy Zielske
• A six-month Paperclipping membership from Noell Hyman

• A place in either Elizabeth Dillow’s “Inspiration Defined” or Karen Grunberg’s “Book of Stories” from Stacy Julian
The other stop on the blog tour for today is Jessica Sprague. Be sure to head over there for more chances to win and to congratulate her!!
Also don't forget about the ebook: Time to Scrapbook! 9 busy women share 27 tricks for fitting it in which includes exclusive layouts created by each of the nominees along with lots of personalized tips and fun information! You will love it!
And finally, if you are new here and you have no clue what I am even talking about you can go to the Ella Publishing blog here to find out all about the award, the nominees and the full prize descriptions!

... that I am knee-deep in scrabpooking project right now
.... or that I am up to my eyeballs in it (but in a good way) :)
The Reflections Event was an absolute blast! I truly love that event and told all of my students that I will keep going back as long as Karen and Susan will have me! My classes were all so laid back and we actually had some serious relaxation and "get-to-know" you time, all while they were putting together the mini album I created! Thanks for being so fabulous everyone!
I also got to have some serious girls' time with my cute and hilarious friends Suzy Plantamura, Elizabeth Kartchner, Kelly Purkey and Kelly Goree! I could hang out with these girls every day!! Just wish we lived closer. The other teachers - Debee Campos, Danielle Flanders and Katie Watson - were all equally as cute and sweet... we just didn't get to hang out as much because of the ways our schedules matched up. My only regret is that I wish I could have been a student so I could take all of their classes and do all of their projects!!
Heading to Preview Day for Creative Escape tomorrow...
I have been working on my project/presentation for so long now... truly pouring my heart and soul into it! So it will be exciting to teach it for the first time. Preview Day is sort of a practice run where we all teach our classes to the other teachers and the volunteers for the event. And you know what is so fun about it?? I do get to take all the classes from the other teachers!!
As I have been gathering all of my supplies and packing up my scrapbooking tools, etc to go tomorrow I realized that I have never been a student at an event like this. It will be refreshing to sit on the other side of the table and learn from and be inspired by the seriously talented line-up of teachers!! Now if I can just get to bed so I can wake up in the morning and get there on time! :)
And finally I had to pop in and share this Studio Calico news with you...
....Yes, some of my most favorite Studio Calico stamps are being retired!!
Almost brings a tear to my eye... literally!
I seriously use the Schooltime ABC Border, this Notepaper stamp, this abc border stamp (that I am in love with), and this pinked circle stamp ALL the time!!
(Well I was going to share some layouts using these stamps but for some reason they aren't uploading... so you will just have to believe me I guess! :) Or you can check back through prior issues of Creating Keepsakes Magazine to find some samples!)
I also adore the pinwheel, frame and silhouette ones too! Oh my, I think they are retiring all of my faves! How can this be?? :)
If you don't already have these then you should literally run on over here and get them before they are gone! When they are gone, they are gone!! I think I may just have to buy extras in case mine ever wear out. I love them that much!
P.S. While you are there be sure to check out the sneak peek for next month's kits. I am in LOVE! Lots of things to make pages for my boys with just enough pink and girlie touches to do some layouts for Emily too!! It's a perfect mix I think!
P.P.S. I promise I will be back to share my full Studio Calico layouts from the past couple of months. I know I have been slacking in that area... I've just been so busy getting ready for Reflections and Creative Escape! Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi there! Hope you are having a great week so far! Mine is already super busy since I am getting ready to go out of town.... heading to Cali to teach at the Reflections Event! I can't wait to get there!! It's going to be a blast!!
In case you haven't heard, National Scrapbook Day is this Saturday! There are lots of fun things going on this week across the web to celebrate and I wanted to share a couple of them with you.
First off, Studio Calico is having hourly chats with the design team on Saturday from 10am - 7pm est.
The design team members are also each hosting challenges on their blogs with a winner of a $10 SC gift certificate for each challenge! Sadly I cannot participate in the chat since I will be teaching all day Saturday but I will be there with you in thought!
MY CHALLENGE is to use mist on a layout! You know I love mists and can't get enough of them! And I know that a lot of you are still intimidated by them so I am challenging you to go for it! Don't be afraid! I promise you will love it!! You can use mist in any way on a layout - sky is the limit! It just has to be on there!
In order to be eligible to win you have to post your layout to the SC gallery and then come back here and leave a comment on this post linking us to your layout in the gallery. Make sense? Good luck! I will be back on Sunday to announce the winner! You can also combine my challenge with any of the others so you don't have to do a separate layout for each one... combine any of them that make sense!
Here are all the other challenges:
Emily: Flickr or Tumblr Inspiration Challenge
Jenn: Sketch Challenge
Davinie: Card Challenge
Lisa: Scrap a Phone Picture Challenge
Kelly: 5 Product Challenge
Nicole H: Old Photos Challenge
Nicole S: Punch Challenge
Waleska: Ad Inspiration Challenge
Sasha: White Space Challenge
Stephanie W: Lift YOURSELF Challenge–-Your Favorite Layout Edition
Susan: Use your favorite SC stamp on a card Challenge
April: Negative Town (use negatives from product packaging/diecuts/etc.) Challenge
Tina: Scrap your avatar Challenge
Steph H: The Opposite Challenge (scrap the opposite way you normally do)
Joy: Scrap Yo Mama! Challenge
You can go to the Studio Calico Blog here and then link to all of their blogs for more information on how to participate and enter to win the prizes!!
You will also want to keep checking the SC blog throughout the week because they will be doing a giveaway where 2 lucky people will win a 6-month Studio Calico subscription for FREE!!
While you are over there be sure to check out the new punches! I just got a few of them yesterday and am sooooo excited to play with them! I got this one and this one and this one!! So fun!! You know I love me some new punches!! :)
Reveal night is tonight for the new May kit! I know I always say this but this one is definitely definitely a favorite!! Did I say definitely? :) Here are sneaks of my layouts... I am dying to see what the rest of the design team did as well as one of my fave scrappers who is the guest designer this month... Jennifer Johner! Love her style!!
Will be back later to share my full layouts as well as the things I used - mist colors, punches etc!
Also, lots going on over at Club CK this week! Will be back soon to share more details. (I think this post is long enough! :) What do you think??)

Hi all! Hope you are having a great week so far!
Popping in to share my teaching schedule for 2010 so far with some information about each event.
CKC Mesa - April 16th - 17th
Registration is open and you can get more info at the Creating Keepsakes website here.
Reflections in Newport Beach, CA - April 30th - May 2nd
I taught at this event last year and the location is beautiful, the hosts are super sweet and it was a great event all around! I know they have some fun things up their sleeves for this year and can't wait to go back! (I'm also hoping that I get to reconnect with some of my students from last year that made it so fun!) I am very excited about the other teachers they have lined up for this year.... especially anxious to have some girl time with my adorable friend Liz. Registration and all the details about the event are here.
Creative Escape here in AZ - August 26th - 28th
If you know Heidi Swapp (the creative genius behind this event), then you know that everything she is involved in is nothing short of amazing. I have heard lots of great things about this event and am super excited to be a part of the teaching team this year. My class will be focused more on photography for this event, but we will still be creating a little project as well. (You know I can't go to a scrapbooking event and not incorporate at least a little something right?) I am excited that I get to teach about both things I am so passionate about - photography and scrapbooking!
The lottery for this event will be open until Feb 15th. On the 16th they will pull the lottery winners at random and contact them by email. All of the details are here. Heidi shares some fun info about all the teachers here. Thanks for such sweet compliments Heidi!
Hope to see you in one of my classes this year!!

Hi there! Happy Monday! It's a brand new week and a brand new year! I am super excited for twenty ten and all that it has in store! I have been going through my calendar this morning doing some planning and looking at some deadlines (for something that I am doing later this year that I am dying to share with you but can't yet). I can already feel the excitement of creativity and new adventures and can tell it is going to be a great year!
I am looking forward to the start of a brand new advanced photography workshop that starts next month and am humbled at the amazing response I have had so far. There are just a couple of spots left for the February start date and I am looking at the calendar to set dates for another one.
I also just opened up registration for my next beginner/intermediate class which will run from March 15th - April 24th. (registration link here)
Starting a new class today with a great group and looking forward to getting to know all of them better on the message board and seeing them go through the journey from shooting in auto to shooting completely in manual in just a few short weeks! That is the one thing I will never tire of -- seeing the quick progress that the students make and also hearing their excitement and surprise at how quickly they are able to make the jump into full manual mode! It is so rewarding as a teacher to see your students succeed and accomplish their goals!! I truly love it! (If you are signed up for the current class and haven't received an email from me, please email me asap! Remember that the only email I have is the one linked to your paypal account unless you have notified me otherwise.)
.............................................................................................
On another note I just want to say thank you to all of my blog readers, clients, students and friends for making 2009 such a fabulous year! I truly appreciate all of you and am amazed all the time at your kindness, your sweet comments and emails, your support and friendship and the simple fact that you keep coming back to share this wonderful journey with me! I want to make sure you all know that I truly appreciate you and your support! Thank you!
Lots of shoots that I still need to showcase from the past few months.... here is one to get us started:
(You may recognize one of these cute girls.... her picture from another shoot we did a couple years back was featured on the cover of Creating Keepsakes Magazine! You can see it here!)
What do you think? Aren't they the cutest family? And I was in love with their outfits and the truck that they lined up for us to use! It was such a fun shoot!! I still have some more to share from this one but thought I would break it up... more to come! I am off to try to make a dent in this scrapbook room/office of mine. It is quite a disaster and is in some serious need of cleaning and organization. I guess you could say that is number one on my to-do list for the year! Have a great Monday!

Hi there! I am happy to say that we have a lot of the Christmas decorations up and it is definitely starting to feel very festive around here. We really just have the tree left and hopefully we will get that set up and decorated tomorrow!
Emily Jane thinks that the decorations mean it is someone's birthday. She keeps looking at everything and saying "birthday party!" And I also keep hearing her sing "happy birthday to you, for emwee".
She is also going around singing "mommy and daddy are maaaaaaad" which is from the song "I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas" that she has been listening to on my phone all week. We think it is pretty cute but when she is singing it in the store people are probably wondering what kind of parents we are if our 2 year old daughter is singing about us being mad! :)
................................................................................
Anyway, on to the giveaways!
The first one is brought to you by Scrapbook Trends Magazine. They are giving away a pink Making Memories Slice!! You know I love the Slice and if you don't have one already then be sure to head over to their blog to find out how to enter to win! Or even if you already have one you can still enter -- the pink one is pretty darn cute! :)
Just to show you a tiny tidbit of what the Slice can do here is a project I did with it.
Most of the elements in this card were cut with the Slice! I especially love all of the tags and scalloped edge shapes that it cuts! I find myself using those a lot!
Next we have another giveaway sponsored by Creating Keepsakes Magazine. They were nice enough to give me two copies of Elizabeth Kartchner's new book titled "52 More Scrapbooking Challenges" and I would love to ship my extra copy to one of you!
If you don't already follow Liz's blog, then you must check it out and I guarantee you are in for a treat. Not only is she super talented but she is also adorable and incredibly sweet. (and no, she isn't paying me to say this! :) ) I met her a couple years ago when we were both teaching at the CKC in Mesa and we have been friends ever since! She is great! This book is nothing short of what I expected from her -- cute and clever and full of inspiration!! Love it!
To enter to win this giveaway all you have to do is leave a comment here on this post and tell me something your family does to celebrate the holidays. It can be anything from a small and simple tradition to a big activity.... whatever you do that makes the season fun and memorable! I am trying to think of lots of fun things to do with my family this Christmas season and I could use some fresh ideas!
I will draw a winner on Monday! Good luck!
