Thought I would answer some questions that were asked about my Studio Calico layouts.

so cute. as always. love all the colors. and the tidbits. you've really helped teach me how to make use of all my scrap pieces. i was just wondering about the heart pieces you used on the "us" layout. the tape piece (at least i think it's tape) and the heart keylock. i can't seem to find them as part of any SC kit. then again, maybe i'm not looking hard enough.

The heart keylock is a new Martha Stewart punch that I just got! It punches out a little key too! So cute! The strip of hearts in the middle of the page is a piece that I cut from one of the papers in the kit. It's on the back of one of the papers so that's why you couldn't find it. It is in the Add On Patterned Paper kit (still available here). It is the back of the My Mind's Eye be loved Sweet Hearts paper.

love, love, love these layouts and would LOVE some info about the dotted line journaling stamp. Your work is fab and i am a big fan!

The dotted line journaling stamp was in the Scones add on kit which is sold out unfortunately. But there is a similar one right here that I also love!

It's beginning to annoy me that your misting always looks so great and mine just looks like I let my two year old loose with paint. :) Is there a secret to it that I'm not getting? Really, your layouts look fab!

When I started reading this comment I got a little scared.... wondering how I annoyed you! :) But then I felt better after reading the whole comment! haha! You are sweet! I think the key is to go easy with it and spray it lightly from further away. I always start light and then add more if I want it darker. I also typically spray it on an angle rather than straight on. Hope that helps!

Christmas in February??!?

Wow, two posts in one day! That is very rare for me!

I took Emily out one morning last week so I could get some pictures of her in her Christmas dress or her "Chris Chris dress" as she calls it. Things like Christmas dresses just seem more cute and more sweet when they are little like this. I didn't get the chance to do this in December but knew that I would regret not taking her out so I figured that February is just as good in the grand scheme of things! Right? 

She is definitely at a difficult age for taking pictures... not as anxious to sit still and smile for me as she once was! :) But, I took my best assistant, Matthew, and together we got some fun shots! He is great at holding my reflector and also getting her to be happy or to giggle when the time is right! (He can make anyone smile with his cute personality!)

I have been dying to edit these and couldn't wait any longer so I pulled one into Photoshop tonight and ran one of my actions super quick. I know I always say it but I simply can't get enough of her. I have lots more to play around with and can't wait to print the photos so I can start scrapping them!! It makes it even more fun when you have pictures that you love and are anxious to work with!!

P.S. My March beginner/intermediate Photography Workshop is filling up quickly! If you want a spot, don't wait to register!! I always feel so bad after they fill up and I get emails from people saying that they waited too long and didn't get in! Will also be announcing the next Advanced Workshop soon. CKC Mesa - April 16th - 17th

Reflections in Newport Beach, CA - April 30th - May 2nd

I taught at this event last year and the location is beautiful, the hosts are super sweet and it was a great event all around! I know they have some fun things up their sleeves for this year and can't wait to go back! (I'm also hoping that I get to reconnect with some of my students from last year that made it so fun!) I am very excited about the other teachers they have lined up for this year.... especially anxious to have some girl time with my adorable friend Liz. Creative Escape here in AZ - August 26th - 28th

If you know Heidi Swapp (the creative genius behind this event), then you know that everything she is involved in is nothing short of amazing. I have heard lots of great things about this event and am super excited to be a part of the teaching team this year. My class will be focused more on photography for this event, but we will still be creating a little project as well. (You know I can't go to a scrapbooking event and not incorporate at least a little something right?) I am excited that I get to teach about both things I am so passionate about - photography and scrapbooking! 

The lottery for this event will be open until Feb 15th. On the 16th they will pull the lottery winners at random and contact them by email. All of the details are here. Heidi shares some fun info about all the teachers here. Thanks for such sweet compliments Heidi!

Studio Calico - Baker's Dozen

Well I am a little late in posting about this month's Studio Calico kits because all of them have already sold out.... (I think some of them even sold out that night)  :( But, if you love the exclusive SC paper for this month as much as I do, you can still get your hands on some of that... link is here. I am in love with these doilie garlands! They are simply divine!!

 

In case you did get your hands on one or more of these kits, be sure to check out the gallery -- so much fabulous inspiration from the other gals in there... including our guest designer Robyn Werlich. I have known her for years and years and I adore what she did with the kits! I also adore her too! :)

Here are my layouts with links to products/tools that I used (that are not included in the kits). As always, if you have any questions about anything, let me know and I am more than happy to answer!

First up is "Us". I adore this photo of me and Emily Jane for lots of reasons... in fact it just brings so many emotions up that I get sort of choked up and can't seem to even make sense of my thoughts or feelings. I had so many things that I wanted to try to say and write but in the end I decided to just leave it unspoken..... in fact, this is why I love photography so much! Sometimes there just aren't the right words and I love that the photo can do the speaking for me! (Thanks to my sweet friend Megan for capturing this candid shot of us when she and I were out playing around with our cameras one day.)

Anyway, I used the Silver Plated mist here and the Hydrangea Blue mist. Also used that doilie garland SC paper that is still available! I will be stocking up on this one for sure! :)

 

 

Next up is "Signs of Summer". This really makes me excited for summer to be here again! Both of these photos were taken at swimming lessons -- somewhere that we spend a lot of our time! I used the Silver Plated mist again (linked above) and also the Cream mist. (As a sidenote - I wasn't quite sure what I would do with the cream mist since I love color but I have found that I use it more than any of my other mists! I love the fact that it tones down my bright colored backgrounds a bit and adds just a bit of texture/interest without being too dramatic.) It may be a little hard to tell but I also misted the small yellow alphabet sheet (that I used for the title and the strip at the bottom) with the Fern Green mist. I felt like the yellow letters didn't stand out enough on my page so I added the green mist to give them some punch!

 

Used the Silver Plated again on this one (am I sensing a new favorite here??) along with the Dark Cornflower Blue mist. I sprayed the blue first and felt like it was a bit strong so I sprayed the Silver Plated over the top to tone it down a little. (I do the same thing with the Cream mist too sometimes.) I also used one of my new favorite border punches on this layout - It's this crown punch from Martha Stewart. love the detail!

 

 

Finally my last page for this month... another one about me that I did just for fun.... using another picture from my trip to Cali to teach at the Reflections Event last year. (btw... I will be back again this year and can't wait!! more info on that later) Surprisingly I refrained and didn't use any mist on this one! :) I used the doilie garland SC paper again and I also used this new butterfly punch that I can't get enough of along with this one too.

 

That wraps up another fab SC kit! Apparently you all loved the kits as well because you scooped them up so quickly! I have to run get the boys from school.... or "go gigi boys" as Emily says! Happy Tuesday!
