Matthew and Nathan both had their birthdays in May but we postponed having their parties because we were moving in and trying to get settled and everything. Then when my mom and sister decided to come down, I thought it would be perfect to have a party for both of them while they were here. So, we were a couple weeks late, but they didn't know the difference and everything turned out great!
Matthew was telling me for months that he wanted a Nemo cake again this year and then the day before his party, he decided that he wanted a yellow cake with "colka dots", so that is what I made. I made him a big round yellow cake and then I made Nathan a little square cake and decorated it like a block with a "1" on one side, an "N" on another side and then some shapes on the other sides - circle, square and a star. It turned out cute and it was really easy to do! Matthew picked out yellow party hats for all the kids and yellow bottles of bubbles to give everyone.
Matthew chose to play the game "duck, duck, goose" and then we opened presents and had cake and ice cream. He was hysterical when he was opening the presents - while he was opening each one he would yell "it's a, it's a, it's a......." and then he would scream out what it was when he got it opened! We were laughing so hard!
He was just so happy and proud of himself the whole time that it was his "yellow" birthday party with yellow hats, a yellow cake and that everyone was there just for him. It was a lot of fun.
Nathan didn't really get what was going on. He was so confused when we were all staring at him and singing "Happy Birthday" and then he was even more confused when I put the whole birthday cake right on his highchair tray and told him to have at it. He was totally timid at first and just stared at it and then he would barely poke at it. We finally had to start feeding it to him and we had to help him figure out that he could grab handfuls of it himself and eat it!! Funny little guy! He really enjoyed it once he got it figured out!
